What a Custom Financial App for Indian Businesses Should Include

GST invoices, UPI collections, and a client login beat a flashy fintech UI. Here is the feature list we actually ship first for Indian finance workflows.

If you hire a financial app development company and they open with “dashboard widgets and dark mode,” pause. In India, a financial app lives or dies on invoices, collections, and trust. Pretty charts are optional. A wrong GST total is not.

This is the feature list we use when someone wants a custom financial app for Indian businesses - CA firms, advisors, NBFCs-in-waiting, and operators who still run money on sheets.

The three things users will open every morning 1. Who owes us, and since when. 2. What we billed (with tax that matches the PDF). 3. What we received - UPI, bank, cash - tied to that bill.

If those three are slow or split across WhatsApp, the rest of the product will not get used. A GST billing and UPI financial app development company should be able to demo this path on a laptop before talking about an iOS listing.

GST invoices that an accountant will not hate Indian service firms need more than a “download PDF” button.

  • Legal name, GSTIN, place of supply, SAC where it applies.
  • Line items with taxable value and tax split that still adds up after a discount.
  • A number series with no silent gaps when someone deletes a draft.
  • Clear labels: tax invoice vs proforma vs credit note.

We have watched teams rebuild the same Excel invoice every month because the software could not do a partial payment. Build partials on day one if your clients pay in stages.

UPI and bank reality, not a fake wallet Most SMBs do not need a closed-loop wallet. They need:

  • A payment link or QR that matches the invoice amount.
  • A way for ops to mark received when the customer paid to the current account and forgot to click “pay” in the app.
  • A note field: “UPI from Rajesh, 12:40, Ref …” so accounts can reconcile.

Full NPCI / Autopay / payout rails come later, with compliance. Do not let a vendor sell you a consumer payment app if you only need collections against invoices.

Client login is the product A portal where the client sees their invoices, quotes, and status cuts half the “please send again” messages. Role-based access matters: the founder sees everything; a staff login should not.

This is the same idea as a client portal for service businesses - for finance teams it is even more sensitive. Audit logs (“who downloaded this invoice”) are not vanity. They are how you answer the next dispute.

What to leave out of version one Skip marketplace lending, robo-advisory, and “AI that predicts cashflow” until the ledger is trusted. Skip native apps if your users are happy on Chrome. A responsive web app from a custom financial app development company in India is usually the cheaper way to learn.

A sane timeline A focused first slice - clients, GST invoices, payment status, client login - is often weeks, not a year. Mobile, partner reports, and automations come after real use.

If that list matches what you need, talk to us. Rastogi Codeworks ships GST-ready billing and portals for Indian service and finance teams - then we add UPI and reports when the basics hold. Book a discovery call and bring one real invoice and one messy WhatsApp thread. That is enough to scope version one.
