How to Choose a Fintech Software Development Company in India

Indian fintech is licences, ledgers, and ugly edge cases - not a neon wallet UI. Here is how to pick a fintech software development company in India that will ship an MVP you can actually run.

Search “fintech software development company” and every site looks the same: credit cards in 3D, the word “neobank,” and a promise to “disrupt payments.” Then you get on a call and they cannot tell you who holds the money, who files with RBI, or what happens when a UPI callback fails at 11pm.

If you are an Indian founder, NBFC ops lead, or a firm digitising lending or collections, you do not need a Silicon Valley clone. You need a custom fintech software development company for Indian startups that will say no to features you are not licensed to offer.

Here is how I would hire one.

Separate the product from the licence A development company writes software. It does not get you a PA, NBFC, or PPI licence. A serious fintech software development company in Delhi NCR will ask, in the first hour:

  • Are you the regulated entity, or a tech vendor to one?
  • Is this a customer app, an internal ops desk, or both?
  • Which rails are real in v1 - UPI collect, NACH, card, or just bank transfer plus a status field?

If they pitch Aadhaar eKYC, bureau pulls, and Autopay in sprint one without asking about your entity, they are guessing. Guessing in fintech is expensive.

Hire for the first ledger, not the app store screenshot Version one for most Indian fintech teams is boring:

  • Applications or accounts in one database.
  • Clear status: draft, approved, disbursed, overdue - with who changed it.
  • Disbursement and repayment records that match a bank file, even if matching is manual at first.
  • Roles so a telecaller cannot see another desk’s book.

The customer app can wait until ops trusts the back office. We have watched teams burn six months on onboarding animation while collections still live in Excel.

Questions that sort builders from brochure shops 1. Show me a product you shipped where money moved - or where you honestly only shipped the dashboard and a partner moved the money. 2. How do you log every status change for an auditor? 3. What is out of scope until legal says yes? 4. Demo cadence - every two weeks on staging, or a big reveal? 5. Who hosts, who has production access, who resets a locked admin?

A custom fintech software development company in India should be comfortable drawing a box labelled “not us” around licences, settlement, and credit policy.

Red flags - “We built 40 fintech apps” with no named workflow. - No talk of idempotent webhooks, retries, or what you show the user when NPCI is down. - Copying a US budgeting app and slapping UPI on the home screen. - Fixed-price “fintech package” that includes wallet, loan origination, and a credit card - pick one job.

How this sits next to a financial app A financial app for GST and client login is often an SMB or CA workflow. Fintech software is usually a product: lending ops, collections, partner portals, payment status. Same engineering habits - smaller first release, India-specific rails - different risk.

Rastogi Codeworks builds the software layer: portals, ledgers, admin desks, GST-aware billing around the product. We do not pretend to be your compliance officer. See software & apps or book a call with your entity type and the one flow you need live first.
